Answer: When you increase the intensity, you’ll feel a mild pulsing sensation followed by a gradual tightening in the abdominal region. The muscles should contract smoothly, hold in that position for a few seconds and then gently relax again, like they would during regular ab exercises.
Answer: Like all exercise, some muscle soreness should be expected. Use a lower toning intensity if you’re experiencing excessive abdominal soreness.
Answer: Some redness is natural during toning, so only wear the belt during a session. If the redness is excessive turn down the intensity, but if the problem persists contact our customer care team.
Answer: Ensure that your gel pads are positioned correctly and firmly pressed on the skin. You can also tighten the belt for a snugger fit. Pause your session before making any abs belt readjustments. Check the intensity too – you can always lower it to make it more comfortable.
Answer: If the signal is weakening (even when the batteries are still OK), it usually means that the gel pads are wearing out. Adjust your abs belt to ensure correct, firm positioning.
If this fails, it may be time to replace your gel pads. Their adhesive, hydrogel properties deteriorate over time, so we recommend replacing them after 20-30 toning sessions.
Answer: Ensure that the patterned grid side of the gel pads is placed over the metal studs (with the black side on your skin) and that you’ve removed their plastic covers. Before and after each session, press the edges of each pad very firmly onto the belt.
Answer: If you just started using a Slendertone belt for the first time you are probably using it at a low intensity (under 30). It is quite normal that you would feel more stimulation at the side (oblique muscles) than in the middle (abdominal muscle) as we use our abdominal muscles every day and they are not as sensitive as the oblique muscles. You should select an intensity level which is comfortable but suitably challenging and continue to increase the intensity as you progress through your six-week programme to maximise your workout. As you increase the intensity you will start to feel the stimulation in your abdominal muscle.
Answer: This means that the gel pads are over your hip bones. Try moving the oval pads upwards and inwards (i.e. towards the centre of your body) to prevent this, but don’t forget to pause your toning session first.
Answer: Slendertone's technology is exclusive, patented and clinically proven. We also offer the only EMS belt capable of exercising all the abdominal muscles: the rectus and transverses abdominis and internal/external obliques.
Answer: Yes! Please wait a minimum of 6 weeks after natural childbirth or 3 months after a caesarean section. Seek approval from your doctor first before beginning a toning programme.
Answer: We advise taking out any naval (belly button) piercings before a toning session.
Answer: Combining toning with your exercise routine can deliver even better results because your muscles are working harder. Walking, abs workouts and yoga and Pilates classes are recommended, while using an intensity that is slightly lower than what you’re used to. Try completing exercises like stomach crunches and sit-ups when you feel the EMS signals contracting your abs.
Answer: People come in all shapes and sizes and the gel pads positioning can be easily personalised for most body types. You can move the central gel pad slightly higher/lower than your belly button. There are 3 size indicators on the belt as well, to help you target specific ab and core muscles based on the location of the nerves.
You can move the two oval gel pads to accommodate different waist sizes. Move away from the central pad for larger waists, and closer for slimmer waists.
Answer: Your Abs5 comes with a two-year warranty on electronic parts. If a fault develops, view our troubleshooting section or please get in touch with our customer care team.
Answer: We recommend 2 sessions each day maximum, but your muscles tell you when they require rest and recovery. If you feel sore, stop for the day, rest and recover. It’s during the rest periods that your muscles grow stronger.
Answer: For the best results, try completing at least 4-5 toning sessions per week. You can do more or less, depending on your lifestyle/schedule and how fresh your abs feel after your last workout.
Answer: Slendertone Abs5 features 10 programmes: 8 core training (used with or without exercise) and 2 core movement (used with exercise).
Press the ‘P’ button to display all 10 programmes. You cannot change programmes during a session – switch your controller off first and then switch it on again.
Your Abs5 features ‘auto-progression’, which takes you through a clinically proven set of programme parameters to provide a stronger core from 4 weeks. Auto-progression begins at programme 1 – just follow the sessions as prompted on the screen.
